Our
goal in breeding is to produce the best combination of family
pet and hunting dog. We breed selectively to obtain the desired
results.
Currently
I do not own a stud dog that meets the requirements I have that
is not too closely related to my females. I look for the best
combination of temperament and field ability, which meets the
Vizsla conformation standard. All three are extremely important
attributes.
We
always start with healthy, sound dogs. All of our females must
be two years of age and receive an Orthopedic Foundation for Animals,
(OFA) certification before they are bred. We also require an OFA
certificate for any stud dog we use. We guarantee that all puppies
will be free of dysplasia or they will be replaced.
If
you examine the dogs in my kennel, you will see that all but one
come from my breeding program. Several other puppies we have bred
are members of children’s households. I think that tells
you a great deal about the confidence we have in the puppies we
produce.
We
strive for a puppy that is just as happy in the house as it is
hunting pheasants. A puppy with a happy outlook on life, solid
conformation and great hunting desire is our goal.
We
prepare our puppies for their new families through lots of human
contact. We also are in the process of building a puppy house
on the farm that will allow them to use both inside and outside
areas for potty training. The facility is full insulated, including
the floor of the puppy room itself, with swinging dogs door for
the mothers to use the outside areas before the puppies are ready.
The goal is for the puppies to be primarily house broken when
they go home. Of course, they are puppies and will need further
training at their new home to complete the job. The pen with separate
potty areas keep the puppies and the mother as clean as possible.
Vizslas
love human contact and thrive in homes where they get lots of
attention. They also love exercise and one of their favorites
is hunting. If you are not a hunter, AKC offers Hunt Tests which
are wonderful ways to simulate the hunting experience for you
and the dog. There are also AKC Field Trials and of course my
farm. I am always happy to help new owners get their dogs started
right in the field.
I
do not require a signed contract from puppy buyers. My expectation
is that you will treat the puppy with love and provide the attention
and proper health needs they require and deserve. I hope you will
work the dog in the field but I do not make it a contractual requirement.
I would also encourage you to participate in conformation, agility,
obedience or rally, but I do not make it a contractual obligation.
I feel it is your decision, not mine, to choose what activities
you participate in with your pet.
Carol
and I are always available to discuss your puppies, before or
after they go home. Having owned and raised Vizslas for nearly
25 years we may have some of the answers you need. If we don’t,
we likely know people who do.
